Richard J. Smithaspiring musicologist, Flutist, polyglot
Richard is a native of central Alabama, but has studied and taught music across the U.S. and Costa Rica.
Driven by a love for people and a passion for learning, Richard is pursuing a career in musicology and social theory.
Using the Protestant Reformation as a pivot point, he's currently interested in researching identity negotiation and voice in early 16th-century music.
Richard will graduate from SUNY Stony Brook University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a minor in Music Technology in May, 2015. He will continue his studies at Northwestern University as he begins a Masters of Musicology program in the Fall of 2015 under the advisement of Dr. Linda Austern.
Aside from music, Richard is heavily devoted to instructional design, and has complemented his studies with opportunities in higher education and leadership.
"Join me as I try to navigate this big ball of rock we call 'Earth.' In whatever I do, I hope to always travel a path built on empathy, scholarship, and a little thing called 'faith.'"
