Wetherby travelled to first division Aberford looking to try and book a place in the west Yorkshire League Cup semi-final.
We have already met twice this season and both times the honours have gone to Aberford – would we be able to gain some revenge?
Wetherby started well with Phil Milsom providing some good balls down the right wing.
The hosts took the lead in the first ten minutes when a superb strike bounced off the crossbar and was finished well by their player.
Wetherby produced some lovely football, but couldn’t find the final touch and two more goals for the home side (including another superb strike) made it 3-0.
The Tangerines pulled one back in the 27th minute when Ali Bowles got the final touch to Josh Forster’s cross.
The second half started with Wetherby on the attack, but just like the first period, Aberford produced some nice counter play and increased their lead with another good goal.
Despite the scoreline, Wetherby were producing good football and had plenty of possession. However, good defending kept them at bay.
Wetherby did reduce the arrears when Bowles produced a cracking shot from just inside the area to beat the keeper.
