Headteacher Comment

So there we have it! We have come to the end of another distinctively different year here at Greenfields. I must start by saying an enormous 'thank you' to the whole Greenfields staff team who are, without exception, the most hardworking team I know, and want the very best for the children in our care.

Earlier this week I thoroughly enjoyed being able to join the class award ceremonies and graduations that highlighted how uniquely brilliant each and every one of our children is, and how they have grown and matured ready for their next adventures. Many congratulations to the Academy Award Winners in each class. Each Academy Award was very well deserved.

The events this week have helped to remind me just how incredible you are (our parents and carers). You have supported your children through another disrupted year and continued to support and encourage us all to do our best for your children. 'THANK YOU'.

During today's End of Year Celebration Assembly I had the pleasure of announcing and talking about our Greenfields Greatest Pupil award winner, Daisy (Year 6). See below for all the many reasons she won this year's prestigious award.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer break and we will see everyone back in school on Thursday 2nd September.

Greenfields Greatest Pupil

Greenfields most prestigious award goes to........

Daisy from Soaring Eagles!

Daisy always stretches herself ;)

Daisy has progressed in leaps and bounds this year and it is all down to her incredible attitude to learning. During lockdown Daisy was phenomenal and would often stay on Teams after the lesson to ensure she had fully understood – she submitted EVERY piece of work and attended EVERY lesson without fail. She returned to school from lockdown with the same attitude, displaying awe inspiring resilience – always striving to progress, improve and be the best she could be. Daisy always completes homework and reads at home, she behaves impeccably and presents herself perfectly – she is a Greenfields role model in absolutely every way. When Daisy used to find work hard, she would sometimes give up trying to understand, thinking she couldn’t do it ... now she has learnt that with positivity, time and effort – she CAN do it. This is evident in her all of her academic achievements.

The DRET Music Team have created this video with all the Year Six classes across the DRET schools - it's pretty amazing! Can you spot Greenfields' Year Six singing their hearts out? We will miss you Year Six and wish you all the best for your bright futures.

Champions of Football

Champion Cheetahs have been celebrating diversity following the Euros Final. The class are so proud of Rashford, Saka and Sancho for their bravery, integrity and contribution to society.

Super Sharks also felt so strongly about the recent events to have happened regarding the England football team that they decided to make some posters. They would love to share them with you and share their message that there is no room for racism in Greenfields school. Below are some drawings from the posters that the children made.

In response to the backlash that some of the England footballers received, Remarkable Rhinos had open and honest discussions about how this affected them and how they felt about it.

Here you can see some of the messages the children sent some of the team. The staff are all so proud to work with open minded children that value diversity and challenge those who are ignorant towards it. What a privilege to it is to teach children that are not bystanders but speak up! #endracism

Year Four/Five

Shakespeare, finally!

After a lengthy delay, Year Four/Five have finally put together their performance of Hamlet. Mr Hughes commented, ‘The cast have done a fantastic job, through what has been a difficult year (due to COVID 19), to put together an excellent performance.' Please keep an eye out on the new Google Classrooms for the film of the performance.

'Goodbye', and 'Good luck'!

The Year Six teachers can’t believe the time has come to say goodbye to this crazy lot!

Each and every one of them has been PHENOMENAL throughout their time at Greenfields and the staff are so sad to see them go. Greenfields will miss their endless enthusiasm for learning and their constant positivity. The last two years have been filled with lots of COVID-19 challenges but this cohort have let nothing stand in their way and have made all staff so proud of their incredible achievements. The teachers know their futures are bright and that they are going to SMASH secondary school and their schools are going to be better places for having them there! The staff hope the cohort come back and visit the staff in Year Six as they are missing them already! There is a special Year Six gathering on 27th July - check your inboxes, Year Six parents and carers!

These have been updated for the classes in 2021-22, so click on the link for the class you will be in in September.

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos every Friday next term in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
