Meet Erika

Meet Erika Reineke, Team Rider's female Laser sailor! A current senior at Boston College and member of US Sailing Team Sperry, she has spent the last few months absolutely killing it!

This past fall Erika won Laser Performance Women's Singlehanded Nationals hosted by Texas A&M. See her standings here.

Read Erika's Summary of her Nationals Win:

Just wrapped up my final Singlehanded National Championship this past weekend in Galveston, Texas and was fortunate enough to pull-off a win for Boston College! Overall the conditions were puffy and shifty with flat water. Most of us don’t practice in these conditions so it was fun to figure out what techniques worked and what didn’t over the two-day regatta. A standout moment from the event was when I heard my teammate, Scotty Rasmussen, won the Men’s division. My heart raced and chills ran down my spine I was so happy! Even now, I can’t think about it without a huge smile appearing on my face. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my senior year.

This championship was special to me because this fall I returned from a year leave of absence to compete in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. The majority of the competitors at the event were athletes I grew up sailing with. Some of the best memories I have of sailing took place in the hours we trained together and competed against each other in the youth fleet. Many of them were there the first time I capsized an Optimist or the first time I learned how to “s-turn” downwind in the Radial. Over the years we grew to love the sport together. Their hard work, dedication, passion, and enthusiasm made me push myself to follow my Olympic dream.
