West Hill Primary School Newsletter december 2018

Key Stage 2 SATs Results 2018

We can now share our 2018 SATs results with you which are above both the average for Wandworth borough and the national results. We are particularly pleased with our attainment in Reading and Maths and our progress in Reading, Writing and Maths.

Progress measures, introduced in 2016, are a type of value added measure, which means that pupils’ results are compared to the actual achievements of other pupils nationally with similar prior attainment in Key Stage One. Most schools’ progress are expected to fall between -5 and +5, with the national average being set at 0.

Our progress in reading and maths was significantly above average and in the highest 10% of schools nationally.
The table shows the attainment and progress of children at West Hill for the academic year 2017-18 in Key Stage 2 compared to the national results. The data includes two pupils who did not take the SATs (4% of the cohort). One has an EHCP and one had a long term illness and was absent from school.

Congratulations to Olivia in Year 5 who won this year's Wandsworth Road Safety Campaign poster competition. It was open to all Year 5 and 6 children in the entire borough and Olivia was one of three finalists who were invited to the Town Hall in November for a special award ceremony. Olivia won £100 in Amazon vouchers for the school, Decathlon vouchers for herself and will see her poster all over Wandsworth for the next year promoting road safety. Well done Olivia!

Thank you to those parents who have completed our short website survey. It is very useful feedback and we will be taking it into consideration during our new website development. Please remember that we also post news daily on Twitter. Follow us @WestHillSW18

Would you like to meet some other parents and staff over a mince pie and a hot drink? Then come along to our informal coffee morning at 9-10am on Wed 19th Dec. Please either sign and return your child’s slip or speak to staff at the school office. See you there!

We would like to thank Pines and Needles for donating a 6ft Nordman fir tree to West Hill Primary School this year. Their pop up shop can be found at 98 Wandsworth High Street and West Hill families will receive free mistletoe and holly with each purchase by quoting the code 'Festive18'. You can take advantage of this online at https://www.pinesandneedles.com/

'Here at Pines and Needles we are passionate about Christmas trees and all things green and good. Where possible, our trees are organically grown and come from sustainable British forests. Our trees are amongst the freshest you will find in London. We refill our stock every 7 days and our trees come directly from the farm. Our services comprise much more than just a standard delivery to your door. We are able to install and decorate them; as well take them away and have them recycled in January if you need us to. If, for some reason, the tree doesn’t meet your expectations, we will happily replace it free of charge if you contact us within 2 days of its delivery.

We strongly believe in sharing love and goodwill with all, especially at Christmas. As a seasonal company, Pines and Needles has a long history of attracting humanitarian workers usually based in third world countries and conflict zones during the year; and to work in our team over the Christmas season. We are happy and grateful to be able to support many wonderful charities, local and internationally. Please see our website for details.'

We would like to wish everyone a very restful Christmas holiday. Please remember that school closes at 2pm on Friday 21st December. Please collect your children promptly.

The first day back at school for children is Tuesday 8th January.
