"The Good Shepherd" by Yolanda Adams

  • Quietly He speaks to me.
  • Gently He leads me.
  • Lovingly the Shepherd carries me.
  • He carries me hidden safely in His bosom
  • I feel His love inside when other times, my friend, I couldn't.
  • He knows just what's best for me;
  • The Good Shepherd knows, He knows
  • Just what I need.
  • Quietly He speaks.
  • Gently the Master leads.
  • So lovingly He carries me to
  • A safe place of rest.
  • And I feel the Master's unconditional love,
  • Everlasting love,
  • Ever so deeply inside of me.
  • I'm so glad Jesus knows
  • Just what's best for me.
  • The Good Shepherd knows -
  • Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
  • I will fear no evil, for Jesus is with me.
  • He leads me, He guides me, He hides me
  • In the shelter of His arms;
  • He holds me there.
  • The Good Shepherd knows
  • Just what I need.

I love this song for it's intrinsic, and extrinsic value. The music speaks to my inner person, I would refer to as my "soul". The song lifts my spirit, or better yet, my emotions and my mood. This song is one of many songs by Yolanda Adams that speaks to me. Our text says that emotions is a state that is affected in response to something we experience. My state of being is affected in response to the lyrics in the song, as well as the music. It is very relaxing and calming.

"Karma" by Alicia Keys

  • Weren't you the one who said that you don't want me anymore
  • And how you need your space and give the keys back to your door
  • And how I cried and tried and tried to make you stay with me
  • And still you said your love was gone and that I had to leave
  • Now you're Talking bout a family
  • Now you're saying I complete your dreams
  • Oh
  • Now you're sayin I'm your everything
  • You're confusing me
  • What you saying to me, don't play wit me, don't play wit me
  • Cause....
  • [Chorus:]
  • What goes around comes around
  • What goes up must come down
  • Now who's cryin', desirin' to come back to me
  • What goes around comes around
  • What goes up must come down
  • Now who's cryin, desirin', to come back
  • I remember when I was sittin home alone
  • Waitin for you til 3 o'clock in the 'morn
  • And when you came home you'd always have some sorry excuse
  • Half explaining to me like I'm just some kind of a fool
  • I sacrificed the things I wanted just to do things for you
  • But when it's time to do for me
  • You never come thru
  • Now you wanna be up under me
  • Now you have so much to say to me
  • Now you wanna make time for me
  • Whatcha doin to me, you're confusin me
  • Don't play with me don't play with me cause
  • [Repeat Chorus 2x]
  • I remember when I was sittin home alone
  • Waitin for you till 3 o'clock in the 'morn
  • Night after night knowing something goin on
  • Wasn't long before I be gone
  • Lord knows it wasn't easy believe me
  • Never thought you'd be the one that would deceive me
  • And never do what you're supposed to do
  • No need to approach me fool, cuz I'm over you
  • [Repeat Chorus]
  • Gotta stop trying to come back to me
  • [Repeat Chorus]
  • It's called Karma baby and it goes around

This song expresses some extrinsic factors that have affected me. The music is upbeat and I have an affinity to the words in the song. It gives me the drive to believe that what goes around comes around. It motivates me. It moves me, or I feel justified, as I believe in "karma". It's my belief that when you do something wrong, it will come back to you in some shape or form. This belief is expressed in the song.

"Brand New Me" by Alicia Keys

  • It's been a while
  • I'm not who I was before
  • You look surprised
  • Your words don't burn me anymore
  • Been meanin' to tell ya
  • But I guess it's clear to see
  • Don't be mad
  • It's just a brand new kinda me
  • Can't be bad
  • I found a brand new kinda free
  • Careful with your ego
  • He's the one that we should blame
  • Had to grab my heart back
  • God knows something had to change
  • I thought that you'd be happy
  • I found the one thing I need
  • Why you mad?
  • It's just a brand new kinda me
  • [another version has some additinal lines:
  • "Never bad
  • I found a brand new kinda free.
  • Ooh..."]
  • [one version:] It took a long, long time to get here
  • [another version:] It took a long, long road to get here
  • It took a brave, brave girl to try
  • It took one too many excuses, one too many lies
  • Don't be surprised, don't be surprised
  • [one version:] If I talk a little louder
  • [another version:] If I walk a little taller
  • If I speak up when you're wrong
  • If I walk a little taller
  • I've been under you too long
  • If you notice that I'm different
  • Don't take it personally
  • Don't be mad
  • It's just a brand new kinda me
  • [another version doesn't have these additinal lines:
  • "That ain't bad
  • I found a brand new kinda free."]
  • Ooh, it took a long, long road to get here
  • It took a brave, brave girl to try
  • I've taken one too many excuses, one too many lies
  • Don't be surprised, oh, said, you look surprised
  • Hey, if you were a friend
  • You'd wanna get to know me again
  • If you were worth the while
  • You'd be happy to see me smile
  • I'm not expecting sorry
  • I'm too busy finding myself
  • I got this
  • I found me, I found me, yeah
  • I don't need your opinion
  • I'm not waiting for your "OK"
  • I'll never be perfect,
  • But at least now I'm brave
  • I know my heart is open
  • I can finally breathe
  • Don't be mad
  • It's just a brand new kinda free
  • That ain't bad
  • I found a brand new kinda me
  • Don't be mad
  • [one version:] It's a brand new time for me
  • [another version:] It's just a brand new time for me

This song brings Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs to mind and I believe I'm on my way to self actualization. I can relate to the words in the song as extrinsic factors are not the most important motivators for me at this point in my life. Even though, I feel that I have moved through the hierarchy of needs, (I'm sure I fluctuate between the stages at times), self-efficacy has propelled me toward the top to self-actualization. I believe I can achieve whatever I set my mind to. The sentiments expressed in the song are intrinsically where I am emotionally. Its all about what I want, and where I want to be!

This Playlist is dedicated to the "Ideals of the young, Independent, success, strong woman"

The vision of a young, beautiful, independent, successful, strong woman is motivating to me. I can relate to her as she expresses attributes, I would like expressed in me. I feel that the ideal woman would be at the top of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. She would have basically everything she needs. That is Physiological, Security, Social, and Esteem needs already met. Then, in her latter years, she can strive to achieve self actualization!
