GEOMETRIC ART PROJECT USING ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR AND PHOTOSHOP

DAY ONE:

1. INTRODUCTION TO ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR (IN-CLASS TUTORIAL)

2. CREATING GEOMETRIC PATTERNS USING THE SHAPE TOOL

FIRST OPEN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR AND SET UP A DOCUMENT THAT IS 12 X 12 inches

NEXT SELECT THE SHAPE TOOL AND START WITH A LARGE BASIC SHAPE THAT TAKES UP A LARGE PORTION OF YOUR CANVAS. BE SURE TO ADJUST THE FILL TO BLANK AND THE STROKE BETWEEN 3-6.

NEXT LET'S COPY, PASTE AND RESIZE THAT SHAPE AND PLACE IT WHERE WANT ON OUR CANVAS.

REPEAT THIS PROCESS A NUMBER OF TIMES AND FEEL FREE TO EXPERIMENT WITH DIFFERENT BASIC SHAPES AND SIZES.

NOW ONCE WE FEEL THAT OUR DESIGN IS COMPLETE WE MAY SELECT THE ENTIRE OBJECT AND COPY IT SO THAT WE MAY PASTE IT INTO A PHOTOSHOP DOCUMENT.

DAY 2:

BRINGING YOUR DESIGN INTO PHOTOSHOP

OPEN YOUR PHOTOSHOP DOCUMENT WITH YOUR HIGH RESOLUTION BACKGROUND IMAGE.

PASTE YOUR DESIGN IN A NEW LAYER

NOW LET'S CHANGE THE COLOR OF OUR GEOMETRIC DESIGN FROM BLACK TO WHITE BY DOUBLE CLICKING ON THE LAYER AND SELECTING THE COLOR OVERLAY OPTION. (BE SURE TO RASTERIZE YOUR LAYER FIRST)

ON OUR GEOMETRIC DESIGN LAYER WE WILL SELECT EACH SHAPE INDIVIDUALLY USING THE MAGIC WAND TOOL.

THEN WE WILL DRAG THAT SELECTION TO A RANDOM SECTION OF OUR CANVAS AND CHANGE LAYERS TO OUR BACKGROUND LAYER.

NEXT CLICK COMMAND C THEN COMMAND V TO COPY AND PASTE. SWITCH TO THE MOVE TOOL AND MOVE YOUR NEW SHAPE TO WHERE IT BELONGS IN YOUR DESIGN. (SORT OF LIKE A PUZZLE PIECE)

REPEAT THIS PROCESS A NUMBER OF TIMES UNTIL YOUR ENTIRE GEOMETRIC SHAPE IS FILLED.

YOUR RESULT SHOULD RESEMBLE THE DESIGN BELOW

NOW USING THE LINKS FOUND IN THE COURSE PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE VARIOUS "DUST AND SPECKLED" AND "GRUNGE" TEXTURES AND APPLY AT LEAST ONE OF EACH TO YOUR NEW DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION.

WE WILL BE WALKING THROUGH THIS DESIGN PROCESS TOGETHER IN CLASS; HOWEVER, IF NEEDED, PLEASE FOLLOW ALONG WITH THE VIDEO BELOW FOR FURTHER CLARIFICATION.
