MIDDLE Colonies Sophia G.

The Middle isn't Little!

Reason for Founding

England needed more land so they fought the Dutch and won their land. England wanted new trading routes so the could send the resources to England. People got kicked out of Massachusetts and moved to the Middle Colonies.

In the Middle Colonies they had great soil and rivers to farm. They also had valleys and lots of Iron to mine. The Middle Colonies had longer summers and a warm climate, but they still had harsh winters.

In the Middle Colonies there was a lot of jobs like shipping, trading, lumbering, merchants, fishers, miners, trappers and most common farming.

What Did the Middle Colonies Grow in their farms?

The farmers grew enough to feed their families, but they mostly ate fish. Farmers in the Middle Colonies were the most successful and were called the "breadbasket" because they grew so much food. They grew barley, wheat, oats, rye, and corn.
