Hills Adventist College Newsletter - 10 August 2018

Ms Jessica Lee - Head of Castle Hill Campus

Last Friday was our Primary Athletics Carnival, and it was a beautiful sunny day and a great start to Term 3. The students were eager to compete in both track and field events and earn points for their house. While some of our students are seasoned competitors, for our Kindy students it was their first time at an Athletics Carnival and they were fantastic.

It was wonderful to see the students cheering each other on at the different events throughout the day. One highlight was the 11 & 12 year old’s competing against the staff in a relay. The 11 & 12 year old Fitzroy Girls came away with the win, leaving it up to Mr Marsden, Mr Sleight, Mr Pillay and Mr Ward to bring home a win for the staff (luckily they did).

There was one particular 200m race that caught my attention on the day. Almost all other competitors had crossed the finish line as a young boy rounded the bend and started down the straight. He was out of breath and struggling to keep going, and just as he was ready to stop running , his mum approached from the sidelines, joined him and completed the race with him. The mum was definitely not dressed to run, yet she stayed with her son to the end. Perhaps without her running beside him and encouraging him, this runner might not have finished.

Sometimes we too can feel like this runner, things might get hard or messy and we want to give up, but we have people there willing to run beside us and help us get to the finish line. It might be our family, friends, colleagues or even a stranger that we cross paths with.

As I reflected on this mum running the last 100m with her son, I thought, "What a great example of what my heavenly Father does for me." When I am gasping for breath, struggling with each step to reach the finish line, my Father is running with me to encourage me each step of the way.
