Baltasar Kormakur´s (Everest, Contraband, 2 Guns) production company, RVK Studios is now offering full production services for film/TV/commercials/photo shoots, in Iceland and Greenland.

With internationally acclaimed TV series like Trapped, Iceland Got Talent and films like: Everest, 2 Guns, Contraband, The Oath, Jar City, The Deep, Virgin Mountain, 101 Reykjavik and many more, under their belt RVK Studios is quickly becoming the largest producer of films and television in Iceland.

RVK Studios has a talent pool that includes some of the most experienced producers in Iceland with the production services headed by Birgir Sigfusson who has been a producer on international and domestic projects for over 10 years. Most recent projects Birgir has worked on include; The Oath, Everest and Trapped.


RVK Studios is owned by Baltasar Kormákur, who started his career in Iceland directing/producing films like, 101 Reykjavík, The Sea, Little Trip to Heaven, Jar City and the Deep.

Since then, Baltasar has been busy directing, writing and producing films both in Iceland and the United States and has won numerous international awards, including the discovery award at the Toronto International film festival (TIFF).

His most recent movie, Everest (2015) grossed over US $200 Million, 2 Guns (2013) and Contraband (2012) both topped the US box office.

RVK Studios has also expanded into TV production, which include the Internationally acclaimed TV series Trapped, The Mayor,Iceland Got Talent and Hulli (animation).

Several other series are in development, such as: Trapped 2, Katla, Hulli 2 and Eve Online, a series based on the widely popular computer game.


Special legislation has been passed in Iceland which aims "to enhance domestic culture and promote the history and nature of Iceland" by temporarily supporting motion pictures and television programmes produced in Iceland.

Reimbursements are offered for film and TV production costs incurred in Iceland. Producers can apply for reimbursements from the State Treasury of 25% of the costs incurred in the production of films and television programmes in Iceland

Production costs refers to all costs incurred in Iceland deductible from the revenues of enterprises pursuant to the provisions of the Act on Income and Net Wealth Tax.

Payments pertaining to employees and contractors are only to be included in production costs if they are verifiably taxable in Iceland.

When more than 80% of the total production cost of a motion picture or television programme is incurred in Iceland, the reimbursement is calculated on the basis of the total production cost incurred within the European Economic Area.

The reimbursement scheme does not cover production of commercials or music videos.
