Work of the Week

Congratulations to William from Pine Martens' class

Knowledge Organiser

We are introducing a new idea into school to help us develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the world. Last week, children in Y1 – Y6 brought home a document called a Knowledge Organiser. This document contained the essential knowledge that children will need to know as part of the new topic they will be studying in class.

The Knowledge Organisers are designed to be used at home by parents to help children learn the information contained within. We want every pupil to be able to recall the information on these sheets off by heart by the end of the topic.

We will also be learning the same information in class.

We are confident that these Knowledge Organisers will help our children to develop knowledge on a wide range of topics and will significantly improve their vocabulary. This, in turn, will make them more confident in class and help to develop their reading and writing skills.

All knowledge organisers are available to view on the school website.

House Captains

The Y6 House Captains were announced in last weeks celebration assembly. These children were selected by Mr Prosser and Miss Collyer and they will now have the responsibility of leading and motivating their respective houses during the year. In addition, when their house wins the weekly house point competition, they will deliver a speech in assembly.

Congratulations to:

Elm (Red) - George Kick & Amelia Sandison

Beech (Yellow) - Imogen Jones & Noah Lovell

Oak (White) - Hannah Nelson & Austin Harker

Ash (Green) - Albie Blake & Sophie Hughes

Mr Prosser and Miss Collyer also appointed

House Point Ambassadors - Jack Heal & Phoebe Green

with the very important job of totalling all house points each week.

Chippenham Library Summer Reading Challenge

A big well done to all the children who took part in the Chippenham Library summer reading challenge. 73 pupils from Monkton Park completed the 6 book challenge. Super readers!

Oscar Parsons from Foxes' class won tickets to see David Badiel (his favourite author) at the Bath Kids Literary festival, with his poem about the Reading Challenge

Library books are fun to read,

They make you feel like a seed.

You start off small,

one book at first,

The Space Chase Race

sets your reading pace,

2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th,

only 1 more-the 6th.

But wait you can't stop

reading, learning, growing.

Thank you Space Chase.

It's been ace.

Well done Oscar.

Tyrone Mings Academy was born from a desire to provide first-class football coaching and better opportunities for children in the South West and Midlands areas.

We are delivering weekly sessions as well as After School Clubs around the Bristol & Wiltshire area for boys and girls from the age of 6 -16.

Things we promise...

1. Highly qualified Academy Coaches

2. A fun, child-focused environment

3. Boys & girls aged 6+ of all abilities

Heading up the Tyrone Mings Academy is Martin Paul. Martin played professionally with Bristol Rovers and Doncaster Rovers, he has gone on to attain the UEFA A Licence, FA Youth Award as well as FA Psychology, Talent ID and Position Specific qualifications. Martin has experience in Grassroots, JPL and Academy Football most recently working at Bristol City and Cheltenham Town.

Martin’s role is to oversee the coaching programme ensuring that it is a fun, inclusive environment and that the 4 corners of Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psychosocial are covered.

Why come to the Tyrone Mings Academy?

We have designed a coaching syllabus that will ensure children are developing in the most important areas of the game in a fun and unpressurised environment. The sessions now follow the whole – part – whole model whereby children move straight into a game, then have a related skill session and finally play the game again to apply those skills.

Tyrone has the knowledge and experience of playing in the Premier League but also playing grassroots level and understands the importance of keeping football fun. On top of that, there will be the chance to win some fantastic prizes including tickets, shirts & boots signed by premier league players.

Tyrone Mings Academy runs on Friday’s after school until 4.30pm and cost £50 for 10 weeks of coaching. If your child would like to join, please contact the school office.
