CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION LIMITS: NEW STANDARDS FOR PORT COMMISSIONER RACES

Heading into the 2019 election season this fall, ports will have a new law on the books with the passage of HB 1375. Set to go into effect 90 days after the legislature’s adjournment (July 27th), the law standardizes campaign contribution limits for ports of all sizes. Previously, only ports with more than 200,000 registered voters (Seattle and Tacoma) were subject to limits.

BEST PRACTICES FOR PORTS DURING ELECTION SEASON

It is an odd-numbered year which means two things – a pink salmon run will occur this summer and this is the “election season” for ports and other local governments. There were a lot of questions at the Spring Meeting, I think, because everyone wants to be careful to do the right thing, making now an appropriate time to revisit the issues surrounding elections.
