Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first book of a 7 book series written by J.K. Rowling. This book, published on June 26, 1997, features a young boy named Harry Potter who discovers he has magical powers, along with an entire magical world that he never even dreamed existed.

This train is called the Hogwarts Express. It is the mode of transportation to and from Hogwarts.

The story takes place in mainly 2 settings. The first being where he lives with his awful aunt, uncle, and cousin at the beginning of the story, and the second being Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry which remains the setting for most of the novel.

This is an outside picture of the Hogwarts Castle, where Harry and his friends spend their time learning and getting into trouble.

Main characters include Harry Potter, the main protagonist, Ron Weasley, Harry's new best wizard-friend, Hermione Granger, the smartest of the 3, and Hagrid, the half-giant that first introduces Harry to magic.

As mentioned before, Harry originally lived with some relatives. However, one day, he was visited by Hagrid, who told him of his gift of magic. Hagrid took Harry and prepared him for school where he would eventually meet his best friends and his worst enemies. While attending school, Harry receives lots of unexpected attention from his classmates. He is much more special than he realizes, but maybe not for the reasons that he would have hoped for.....

Students are separated into specific houses. Harry is chosen to be in the Gryffindor house.

The theme throughout the first Harry Potter book is the conflict between good and evil. Even though there are minor themes expressed during the story, nothing or more important than good vs evil.

I was very impressed with the creativity of J.K. Rowling in the creation of the first Harry Potter book. During research, I found out that any time she came up with an idea for the story, she would write it on a napkin and use the ideas later. The level of imagination it took to create this story is very fascinating and inspiring.
