The Artist In Me Tahera Gordon - Through my eyes

I was born on January 10, 1998 in St. Andrew, Jamaica. After doing 6 years at the Wolmer's Girls' High School in Jamaica, I decided to relinquish my studies there and further my studies at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada as I am planning on going into graphic design or animation.
From a young age, my passion for the arts was driven by my love for Animation and movies. Overtime, I started to observe the drawing styles and designs used in both animations and movies and started doing some drawings of my own.
Before attending college in Canada, my artistic skills were limited to mainly hand drawn designs using pen and ink, water coloured paints, pencil crayons and pencils.
When I just started doing art I did a lot of character drawings. I imitated characters from anime that I liked and I also did a few still life drawings.
My philosophy on art is to create something that you would love because if you don't love your own artwork, no one else will. When doing any artwork, I always try to create something that if it was made by someone else, I would still be interested in the piece.
Now I have also developed my drawing skills as well learned to use Adobe software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Spark and Lightroom.

One of the assignments that I enjoyed doing at George Brown was an onsite drawing of Union Station using pencil crayon on Canson paper.

The first step was to create two small versions of a section anywhere in the station that I wanted to draw

I liked the results on the mid tone grey canson paper better, so I decided to do the final version on a bigger canson paper of the same colour.

I used pencil crayon to get the shading just how I like it.

The final results.

Always aim for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars -W. Clement Stone
For this assignment I used pen and ink on illustration board to create a self portrait of myself, portraying myself as Superwoman
If you can dream it, you can do it - Walt Disney

As well as doing drawings and digital works I also dabbled in photography.

For this assignment I walked through Downtown, Toronto and took pictures of the city.

From all the picture I took, I chose my best five (5) and created a series on the theme of "Art in the city".

For the series I did different forms of art from architectural buildings, to paintings. to graffiti, to statues.

I edited the images to make sure the Art forms stand out.

I also arranged the images in the series, in a way that would give you a feeling, as if you were traveling through the city.

Closing the series with the elephants walking away.

If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life -Mark Anthony

For this piece I had to show the illusion of depth. I decided to give it a horror movie theme with a person crawling out toward the front.

With some new skills developed from the Foundation Program at George Brown College, I am now able to draw and create designs with more precision and accuracy, using both my hands and the computer to give my work a more graphic look. After completing this program I am hoping to continue my studies in Graphics Design or Animation.
