Classified week March 6th -9th
Mrs. Rivera, Mrs. McCoy and Mrs. Bermel had a great Classified Appreciation Week here at Hawthorne Alternative. The staff treated them to a day of many, many goodies. Mr. Thompson and Mr. Greenough presented the ladies with travel tumblers that were engraved by Mikeighla Velasquez in her Robotics class. The tumblers feature the Hawthorne logo and the ladies' names. Mr. Bettineski from PHS brought the ladies lunch on Monday. What a nice treat!.

Spring is in the air and students are excited about the upcoming break. As always, the staff has been working very hard this semester to ensure students earn as many credits as possible. During the March awards assembly, a total of 44 awards or certificates were presented, with students earning 21 credits for the month. We certainly have a large number of kids doing the right things and setting a good example for others. SBAC testing begins this month and most of our juniors have already completed the science portion of the assessments. Math and English testing will begin in April. For our seniors, a special incentive is in place to help inspire them to push hard throughout the rest of the year. Students who meet the criteria for attendance, academic achievement, and behavior will be rewarded with a trip to Silverwood Park in late May. Special thanks goes out to the Education Foundation of Pendleton for sponsoring the trip! We would also like to thank the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce, and its members, for visiting our school this month to learn more about the programs we offer. It is always a pleasure to share our story with the community. We will again be opening our doors to the public on April 13th for an Open House that will run from 4:45-6:45. Please feel free to drop in for a visit!
Chamber members visit the Hawthorne Alternative School wing of the Pendleton Technology and Trades Center building, formerly West Hills Elementary School.
Students' art projects are starting to take shape. They have been working really hard to have them ready for the Art show at the Convention Center on April 18th. A big "thank you" also goes out to the East Oregonian for printing the art story in the newspaper on March 24th! There are some great things happening at Hawthorne this year!
