The impact of past event's on Today's classroom

Special Education

Special education wasn't established until early 1883 when Margaret Bancroft left her teaching position to pursue her strong beliefs that all students have the ability to learn. She said " special students must have a special school," with well trained teachers who used materials adapted to this children's capabilities.

Margaret’s innovation has left a lasting imprint on the world of special education and has shown the importance of offering all children the opportunity to learn.

In addition, her legacy lives on through the Bancroft Training School which now serves as a nonprofit institution with residential and day care.

Building personal relationships with students!


From working with chalkboards and just paper and pencil students now work with iPads, digital white boards and many other devises that allow them to assert themselves in different learning environments.

The idea is that digital devices, software, and learning platforms offer a once-unimaginable array of options for tailoring education to each individual student’s academic strengths and weaknesses, interests and motivations, personal preferences, and optimal pace of learning.


As more students could read, write, and communicate at a basic level it made sense to only develop standardized testing.

As we are in present day it's not enough to just measure students on literacy, numeracy, and content knowledge. Assessment is an umbrella term, explaining many methods of gathering evidence about student learning. These include observations and dialogues, traditional quizzes and tests, performance tasks and projects, as well as students’ reflections on their own learning.


Reading is the base for all learning, this is where students start with productive success in their education. With no early childhood reading strategies instilled in students learning becomes difficult and is seen as burden rather than a place of excitement and new experiences.

In today's present classes students are to have 90 minutes of reading instilled in their daily school routines. And if a students struggles with reading or any literacy activity you will have a student who not enjoy their school day. I have learned in my literacy classes that it is very important to incorporate literacy into all core curriculum so students have amplitude times to practice reading and become successful.
