NEWSLETTER MARCH 2019

Highlights

It's our first newsletter for the year and one that has been overdue! There have been a lot of changes happening at Transpire HQ and we're excited to share them with you in this brand new newsletter!

Committee changes

Jess has now stepped down as chair and we would like to welcome Logan as Transpire's new Chair. Logan will be helping to find a volunteer to take on the Treasurer role, which will be announced in due course. A big thank you to Jess for volunteering her time and we wish her continued success in her new job.

Meet & Eat

Our first Meet & Eat of the year and one at a new venue. A big thank you to the staff at Utopia Coffee house and to Essex Police for popping along to support the event. We also would like to formally welcome all the new members that joined us too! It was great to see one of our best turnouts ever, reconnect with old friends, and meet new ones too. We hope to see you all again at future events.

Roots & Fruits

Our volunteers have been busy with self development and exploring the art of engagement techniques! A shout out to Sherry Fuller for donating her time to help train our volunteers in Appreciative Inquiry Techniques and more. It was great fun and we all benefited from Sherry's training. We are now working hard on growing our roots, so you can all enjoy the fruits!

Pottery Painting Experience

This was a really popular event last year so we thought we'd return our 'Paints, Plates and Mates' event. Everyone had an opportunity to pick a piece of pottery and unleash their artistic talents. We can't wait to see the finished pieces! If you missed out this time round, we’ll be doing it again in the future, so look out for "Mugs, Jugs and Hugs"!

No Place for Hate: Winter Pride

We were proud to take part in Winter Pride held at St. Marks Church Hall, with our own Transpire stall. This involved chatting to people about Transpire and our Hate Crime Ambassadors, giving out information, selling our merchandise and signing up new members. The event was set up by Southend-on-Sea Pride, and despite the cold weather everyone had a great time! Thank you to everyone who came along and said "hello" to us, and save the date for the big summer Southend Pride week - 13th-20th July.

Thank you

We would like to thank some of our donors in this months newsletter. A big shout out to all of you that helped support Transpire!

  • Southend High School for Girls - One of their students kindly did a cake sale and the proceeds were donated to Transpire
  • Emerge Arts - Their students developed and put on a play exploring transgender issues with ticket sales all donated to Transpire
  • Diverse Care
  • And to all of you that have made donations as individuals or by purchasing merchandise to help support the group
