I decided to take Intro to Art because art is something that i enjoy doing in my free time and I want to learn more techniques, forms, etc. I was expecting to learn about different types of art, new media as well as techniques.
The first picture at the far left is the strategy relationships and proportions. The one next to that is contours and edges where we drew without being able to look at our paper. Following contours and edges is positive & negative space. Lastly the piece on the far right is the strategy lights and shadows.
I learned the most from the spaces strategy because it's a way to see completely different views of the same picture
My drawing skills have improved this year because I have started to draw what i actually see instead of symbols and made facial features more realistic, I've also improved on facial proportions.
Chiaroscuro is an Italian term used to describe the contrast of light and dark to give the illusion of space
The far left is a drawing I did on the first day of class. The middle piece is a test run of using chiaroscuro and charcoal. The right piece is the fragmented self portrait. I think I have done better with drawing what is actually there, seeing the changes in the lines and incorporating it into my artwork. I think I've done better at drawing my own features instead of stereotypical features. I think I improved the most in controlling value while at the same time giving the illusion of space.
I would want to re-do my test run self portrait because I would have fixed the transition shadows and soften other parts of my face.
I think i have improved the most in technical skills and controlling whatever form of media I'm using. Ive also improved my color use and knowledge. I also now know that a little color goes a long way when making a tone of a color.
