Redesigning a Professional Learning Environment By: Esmeralda Chavez

STAKEHOLDERS: •Educational Technology Department •Site Administration• Teachers • Site Technology Leads

iDEO resinated with me because of The five phases of the design Process that it's centered on. this human centered design approach, focuses on learning about the needs of adult Learners, The Expected training outcomes, and the collaboration time. I especially liked that this type of redesign because the space allows everyone to explore their creative side in a non intimidating manner and to try things that a traditional learning space wouldn't Inspire. it's also important to take into consideration the variety of learning modalities of their learners as well as how the equipment, furniture, technology, and space is reflective of what they can do on their own. Overall, this human centered model creates a comfortable yet challenging environment that promotes collaboration and community.

IDEO

TIMELINE: IDEALLY AT LEAST A MONTH OF PLANNING WOULD GO INTO A TRAINING. THIS WOULD BE DEPENDENT ON THE TOPIC, SIZE OF INTENDED AUDIENCE, PURPOSE, LOCATION, AND STAKEHOLDERS.
  1. DISCOVERY - For this portion I will randomly place my learners in groups and give them clues they will need to use to unlock their Breakout Box. This activity introduces them to the PD topic, promotes the four Cs, challenges them, builds community. By starting with this activity, learners are immediately immersed in the topic and have time to think of questions that will facilitate a class discussion after the Break Out.
  2. INTERPRETATION - Once the allocated time for the breakout has elapsed, learners will have a brief amount of time to circulate the room and ask a different person from another group what their experience was like. This will be followed by a brief Nearpod presentation where learners will answer a few follow up discussion questions to gauge their understanding of the topic and who needs additional support. I chose Nearpod, because the data is always accessible to me on the platform.
  3. IDEATION - Learners will have about an to get a familiar with a scenario they will be presented with. Each group will have a different scenario along with it's own difficulties and issues that they need to address. Groups will need to develop a game plan to address all of the points presented to them.
  4. EXPERIMENTATION: After groups have shown me their game plan they will have time to try using some of the resources available to them. Additionally, learners will see how they can improve on their ideas and experiment to see how changes affect the objectives that needed to be addressed.
  5. EVOLUTION: At the end of this training, learners will be asked to use a specific app or platform to present their ideas to the entire group. This will help with further discussion, and to empower all learners in exchanging information and developing ideas on the topic. A follow up survey will be used to determine the effectiveness of the training. Moreover, each presentation that the learners gave will be available on our district website for them to access post training and link to a Padlet will be provided for learners to continue collaborating.
