The Eagle News Mattie lively elementary school

Mattie Lively Elementary students and staff will celebrate Read Across America March 1st – 5th with a variety of activities at school. The purpose of Read Across America is to get students excited about reading and build school community. Activities include celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, reading initiatives and book-themed dress-up fun. A complete list of activities for the week will be sent home with the students. Please contact Niki Brown at nibrown@bullochschools.org for more information.

We would like to update you on some recent changes in our school administration. Al Dekle and Farrah Reddick (former Assistant Principals) are currently acting as Co-Principals, and Valerie Powell has assumed the role of Acting Assistant Principal. Mattie Lively has a strong tradition of providing the best for students, staff and the community. Although Mattie Lively has experienced changes, the expectations of high standards for our students continues.

At Mattie Lively Elementary, we want our school to be filled with students who are responsible, creative, goal-oriented, problem-solving leaders. We believe through The Leader in Me process, this is happening! As a Leader in Me School, we are continuing the journey this school year. Students and staff have completed the first 4 habits and are currently practicing Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Two students from each classroom are selected and recognized each month for demonstrating the current habit.

As we move forward into the second semester, we want to make sure all our families have all the tools they need to help their child(ren) succeed. Additional resources can be found on our school website under the Parents tab/Parents & Family Engagement: https://mles-bcss-ga.schoolloop.com. Parents can contact Sharon Wilkins (Parent Engagement Specialist) at (912) 682-9894 or by email at swilkins@bullochschools.org. Parents can also request additional academic resources from the school resource center (virtual or face to face).

Fifth grade students have taken over at Mattie Lively Elementary! Well, actually, they've taken over morning announcements with a recorded news broadcast called Eagle News. Each morning, the student-anchors welcome their peers to a new school day. They lead the school in the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. The anchors announce school-wide events, student birthdays, the lunch menu, and Leader in Me information. Future additions for Eagle News include special guests, staff and student interviews and grade-level contests aimed at getting students excited about learning.
