What is matter? By celena swaim

What is matter? Matter: is anything that has mass and takes up space.

Matter has two parts of it. One part is Pure Substance and the other one is Mixture. I will talk about Pure Substance first.

Pure substance:A pure substance is any single type of material. Material that has constant composition and has consistent properties throughout the sample. Here are examples of pure substances.............

These are all examples of Pure Substance.

There are two things that come from a Pure Substance one is Element and the other one is Compound. We will talk about Element first

Element: If all the atoms in a substance have the same identity that substance is an element.

this is an example of elements.

An example of element is sodium and hydrogen. There are many more types of elements.

Now i'm gonna talk about compound....... Compound: is a substance in which the atom of two or more elements are chemically combined.

These are all examples of compounds. They are all made up of more then two elements.

Now im gonna tell you about mixture........ Mixture: is a material made up of two or more substances that can be easily separated by physical means.

Examples are: mixtures of sand and water or sand and iron filings, a conglomerate rock, water and oil, a portion salad, and trail mix.

There are two parts of mixture one is Homogeneous mixtures and Heterogeneous mixtures. First i'm gonna talk about Heterogeneous mixtures.

These are the two types of mixtures.

Heterogeneous mixture: is simply any mixture that is not uniform in composition -it's a non-uniform mixture of smaller constituent parts.

There is the example of Heterogeneous mixture. Other examples are ail and water. salt and pepper

Now I'm gonna talk about Homogeneous mixtures. Homogeneous mixture: A mixture which has uniform composition and properties throughout.
