A Spectrum of Faith Religions of the world in america's heartland

Media Kit

DRAKE COMMUNITY PRESS, 2017

Amid the swaying cornfields of America's heartland,

a stunning diversity of religion is on display.

When photographer Bob Blanchard moved to the capital city of Des Moines in 2015,

he was captivated by the vibrancy of religious belief as it’s lived in the Midwest.

Bob teamed up with Drake Religion professor Timothy Knepper from The Comparison Project

to create a book of photographs and narratives in collaboration with 15 faith communities in our city.

Over the course of two years, over 60 Drake student researchers, writers and designers worked closely with their professors, consultants, and our beneficiary partner, Des Moines Area Religious Council, to create A Spectrum of Faith.

At the Drake Community Press, we call this writing with.

Misconceptions about religions different from our own often divide us one from another. The book illustrates, literally and figuratively, how people can be brought together through education and understanding.

A Spectrum of Faith moves readers beyond the ‘flyover country’ that many think of when they imagine Iowa...

...to present an intimate look at the way Sikhs, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Christians, and Hindus practice their faith.

Welcome to one of the nation’s unexpected melting pots.

I look through these pages with admiration, seeing in what you have built something that I believe cities all over the United States and the world should seek to emulate.
