Monkton Park Newsletter Friday 8th March 2019

Parents' Evening

Our parents' evenings will be held on 20th and 21st March this term. As in previous meetings, we will be using our online booking system and we would recommend trying to log on beforehand. Bookings will open at 7pm on Tuesday evening but should you require any further help please do not hesitate to contact us.

World Book Day

Today we celebrated World Book Day. The children looked amazing in their costumes, thank you to all of our families for providing the wonderful costumes.

Many of the children decorated potatoes for the character competition. The standard was very high and the judges had a very hard time choosing the winners Congratulations to:

Reception - Josiah Burrows

Years 1 & 2 - Annabel Lycett

Years 3 & 4 - Amelia Blackett

Years 5 & 6 - Albie Blake

Our winning spuds!
A small selection of entries.

Hampton Court Palace

Our trip to Hampton Court Palace was amazing! We had an early start arriving at school for 7:15am! After a 2 hour journey we eventually arrived at the Palace at 10am. A quick stretch of our legs and we were ready to explore. As we walked through the gates we couldn’t believe how big Hampton Court Palace was. We were now ready for our Tudor adventure to begin. Our first stop was the kitchen, there was a roaring fire where they would have cooked the meat. There would have been over 100 people working in there during Henry VIII’s reign. They would have been boiling meat and making pies. Then we made our way to Henry VIII’s apartments, the first room we visited was the Great Hall where all the Lords and Ladies would have eaten their meals. Sometimes Henry VIII would have eaten there too. Then we visited the room where Henry married Katherine Parr, a replica of his crown was also on display. There were many paintings of Henry and his family along the corridor. It was amazing to see where Henry VIII lived. The whole of KS2 had a fantastic trip. We would give Hampton Court Palace 10/10.

Jessica, Daisy, Tom and Alfie.

Comic Relief

Next Friday (March 15th) is Comic Relief and to help raise money for this there will be a Mufti day (red noses can be worn!). Donations of £1 would be much appreciated and all money will go to Comic Relief.

Badgers Bake Off

On Monday 18th March Badgers class will be taking part in a 'Bake Off' for Stand up to Cancer. They will be selling their cakes after school from 3pm.

Facebook

Most people take part in online activities and social media and we fully understand the advantages that it can bring. There is both a FOMPS and Monkton Park parents Facebook page (neither run by the school) which allows parents to receive and respond to messages about school events.

Within these spaces however we ask that care and thought is taken when discussing school life online. It is easy for issues, concerns or frustrations, that can easily be resolved by speaking to the school, to be blown out of proportion online.

If you do have any concerns or questions please do speak to us directly and we will always try our best to resolve any issues.

Cancellation of clubs - 20th & 21st March

Due to parents' evening on Wednesday 20th March, we will have to cancel Multi Skills club and Lego club and on and Thursday 21st March, we will have to cancel Football club, KS1 Art and 500 Words. We hope this does not cause too much inconvenience.

School Catering Provider

From Tuesday 23rd April school meals will be cooked and supplied by a new caterer - Dolce Schools Catering.

So that we can introduce them to you we will be holding a Parent Taster and Introduction Evening on Thursday 14th March at 6.30 in the school hall. Staff from Dolce will be there to speak to parents and samples of meals will be available for you to try. They will also be able to show you how their ordering system works.
