Prepare for Winter Storms and Extreme Cold Plan to be safe

Build your 'Disaster Supplies Kit': Your family should be prepared to manage without assistance for at least 72 hours. Stock up on water, food, medicines, and heating fuel. Don't forget to have food and water for your pets!

Test your carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms.

Keep all combustibles away from heat sources. Clean your chimney and flue.

Portable generators should never be operated inside a garage or basement. Ever.

Prepare your vehicle.

Keep your fuel tank at least half full.

Fill your windshield washer fluid.

Make sure your anti-freeze is adequate.

Check your tires.

Keep a winter emergency kit in your car.

Dress for the weather: wear layers of warm, lightweight clothing; wear a hat; wear a scarf to protect your lungs.

Snow Clean-up

Shovel light! Pace yourself and take light scoops. Over-exertion while shoveling snow is a cause of heart attacks and strains.

Pace yourself!

Shovel a 3' radius around fire hydrants near your home.

Clear ALL of the snow from your vehicle before travelling.
