Valentine Celebration a Success

We enjoyed a day of love and festivities as we feasted on beautiful homemade heart shaped cookies and buttery heart shaped waffles. We hope you enjoyed looking, with your child, at your child's Valentine booklet filled with Valentine cards. Thank you to all who volunteered and donated treats and supplies.

School Picture Day

School Picture Day is Wednesday, February 22. An order form was sent home on Monday. Please complete the form and return to school by Wednesday, February 22. A class picture will be taken on this day as well as individual portraits.

Field Trip to the Blue Ash Public Library

Please complete and send in the permission slip for the Blue Ash Library. The letter and form were sent home on Monday and are due Wednesday, February 22. All parents are welcome to meet us at the library to assist with book selection and check out.

One Author, One School

We have started our One Author, One School adventure! Each night one student is bringing home the book, Boxes for Katje and another is bringing homeĀ Papa's Mechanical Fish. An activity guide and journal are included with the book. Each family keeps the book for one night and returns the book the next school day. We look forward to Candace Fleming's visit on March 7.

School Picture Day - Wednesday, February 22

School pictures will be taken on Wednesday, February 22. You may order and prepay ahead for individual portraits. You may also order and prepay for a class photograph. Orders and payments are due on or before February 22. Look for the information from LifeTouch to come home soon.

Field Trip to the Blue Ash Public Library - Monday, February 27

We look forward to celebrating Read Across America Day - the day of Dr. Suess' birth on March 2 - all week long! We will visit the Blue Ash Public library as a kick-off! Look for a permission form to come home soon. Students will need their library cards to check out books. We will need parents to meet us at the library to help students check-out books.

Literacy Learning

We are continuing our work on reading longer and stronger by activating our super powers. This week we practiced looking for pop-up words in our books. We want to know lots of pop-up words to keep our reading fluent and smooth.

We enjoyed listening to the book, THE MITTEN. This book is helping us practice looking at the pictures to gain information. It is also helping us practice asking questions as we study the pictures and say, "I wonder...". We are also practicing inferring as we study expressions on faces and ponder what the expressions tell us. We will practice retelling the story as we make paper "puppets'. Our retelling will include the characters, setting and events in sequential order. We will work hard to include the names of the characters and to incorporate language from the text.

Writing Workshop

We took time to write and illustrate our Valentine messages on Monday and Tuesday. We hope you enjoyed the heartfelt words, lovingly crafted handprints and precious illustrations. We are now back to work learning to write with clarity and explicit steps to teach others how to do "stuff". WE are also working one making sure there are spaces between words so others can read them.

  • We are practicing reading color words as we sing the rhyme, My Mitten.
  • We also are practicing reading, was, as we read the booklet, THE MITTEN.
  • We reviewed writing all the letters that are based on the formation of the letter c. The letters are c, o, a, d, g, q and s. Encourage your child to correctly form these letters as instructed.
  • We are working on forming all letter case letters with a correct and consistent way. This week we worked on z.

We worked with partners and unifix cubes to make ten in different ways. We also played a game, Flip Ten Chips, to explore ways of composing and decomposing ten. Both activities are designed to help students recognize that quantities can be organized in different ways but the quantity remains constant.
