IRONMAN 70.3 Pucon An AMAZING EXPERIENCE

I've raced here four times and been an ambassador many times since. My history here started in 1989 and I've got a lot of great stories to tell from being here.

The experience in Pucon is much more than just the star event which is the triathlon. It began this year with the Baby Race. It's never too early to catch the bug!

As with any race, it's best to set the stage with a good warm up. At the Baby Race in Pucon, Chile that requires a bit of dance!

Even the press got into the act.

Listo? ¡Vamos!

The IRONKIDS event was kicked off with its own Pasta Party.

Football. Food. And yes, more dancing!

The IRONKIDS champions were treated like triathletes of the highest level with interviews that included CNN Chile! Next year Anderson Cooper?

Past and present champions of the race were there. Pucon is a magnet that brings us all together.

Barbara Riveros from Chile. Olympian and as of 2017 a 3-time IRONMAN 70.3 Pucon Champion!

Every moment was about capturing something you won't see anywhere else in the world. Sometimes that required improvising!

The Pasta Party is the first time we all celebrate together before the start of the race. This year was marked by honors for past performances.

The calm before the storm.
The Press capturing it all.
An award for past achievements. Truly an honor!
Barbara Riveros was the real standout. Past accomplishments but also future potential.
A full house.

Race day did come and it was outstanding!

In the end it was Lionel Sanders and Barbara Riveros who were crowned the champions.

Riveros had to make up over 6-minutes on the run to catch eventual second place Alicia Kaye. Barbara took the lead with only 800m to go in the race!

An amazing race. An amazing champion.

Taking home the gold!

1-2-3 Barbara Riveros, Alicia Kaye, Haley Chura

Lionel Sanders manhandled the field.

Luck was on his side though. His rear tire blew in the transition area less than 5-minutes after he headed out onto the run.

The 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 Pucon is now like a dream. What continues on are the many changing moods of the Villarica Volcano that watched over us all while we were there celebrating an amazing day in the history of triathlon.

Thanks Pucon!
