These attractive holiday barns are situated together off a rural back road between Monsal Head (probably the Peak District's favourite viewpoint) and unspoilt Great Longstone. Little Longstone itself has a great little pub, the Packhorse, very popular with locals and visitors alike serving imaginative, rustic food and local Thornbridge and Black Sheep beers. Beer garden, open fires and great atmosphere guaranteed. Opposite the barns is The Hollow b&b which offers excellent breakfasts and light lunches (in the beautiful garden, weather permitting) to non-residents most of the year at weekends.
There are two more very good pubs in Great Longstone (0.5 miles walk along the back road or across fields), the ever-popular, traditional Crispin Inn (real ales, good food, beer garden, open fires) and the White Lion which enjoys a reputation as a gastro pub. Both establishments are definitely worth a visit during your stay at Little Longstone barns.
Luckily for most, this excellent accommodation is just 100 yards along from the 'Pack', a little gem of a pub! Opposite and next to The Hollow is a footpath leading down through fields to the famous Monsal Trail and, turning left once on it, is just a gentle 20 minute stroll to the very good Hassop Cafe, bookshop and cycle hire. Turn right once on the trail however, and you'll soon enter a long, traffic-free former railway tunnel to emerge onto the stunning Headstone viaduct straddling the beautiful river Wye which runs through glorious Monsal Dale and on to Bakewell and beyond. Turning right out of the holiday accommodation itself and in 10 minutes you'll arrive at Monsal Head to admire the wonderful view into the dale perhaps with an ice-cream or a pint from the popular Stables Bar. There's also a cafe (gifts) next door.
