Holidays in the Peak District National Park Spotlight on little longstone barns near the monsal trail...

What a fantastic place the PEAK DISTRICT really is and I should know as I've lived, worked and played in it for almost 10 years, moving across from the nearby town of Chesterfield in 2007. The UK's oldest (first) national park, the Peak District boasts 555 square miles of moorland, heathland, gritstone edges and rolling hills to explore on foot, by car or by bicycle and is a perfect destination for a few days away from the strains and stresses of modern life.

So let's get to it. When are you coming over to enjoy some superb Peak District accommodation, which village should you stay in and will it be a cosy holiday cottage with open fire, posh hotel, pub b&b, campsite, holiday lodge, Youth Hostel or caravan park? Did I miss anything? Probably but without further ado I'm going to tell you about one of the best places to stay anywhere in the Peak District followed by one or two glorious pubs, restaurants and cafes thrown in for good measure. And, trust me, I know what I'm talking about too so may I present to you the absolutely fabulous.....

LITTLE LONGSTONE BARNS - holiday barns near Monsal Dale, Bakewell & Chatsworth

LITTLE LONGSTONE BARNS. Choice of 4 holiday barn conversions near Monsal Dale, Bakewell and Chatsworth. Sleeps 8, 5, 3 and 2 or 18 if booked together. Close to super food pub with local ales.

These attractive holiday barns are situated together off a rural back road between Monsal Head (probably the Peak District's favourite viewpoint) and unspoilt Great Longstone. Little Longstone itself has a great little pub, the Packhorse, very popular with locals and visitors alike serving imaginative, rustic food and local Thornbridge and Black Sheep beers. Beer garden, open fires and great atmosphere guaranteed. Opposite the barns is The Hollow b&b which offers excellent breakfasts and light lunches (in the beautiful garden, weather permitting) to non-residents most of the year at weekends.

There are two more very good pubs in Great Longstone (0.5 miles walk along the back road or across fields), the ever-popular, traditional Crispin Inn (real ales, good food, beer garden, open fires) and the White Lion which enjoys a reputation as a gastro pub. Both establishments are definitely worth a visit during your stay at Little Longstone barns.

Luckily for most, this excellent accommodation is just 100 yards along from the 'Pack', a little gem of a pub! Opposite and next to The Hollow is a footpath leading down through fields to the famous Monsal Trail and, turning left once on it, is just a gentle 20 minute stroll to the very good Hassop Cafe, bookshop and cycle hire. Turn right once on the trail however, and you'll soon enter a long, traffic-free former railway tunnel to emerge onto the stunning Headstone viaduct straddling the beautiful river Wye which runs through glorious Monsal Dale and on to Bakewell and beyond. Turning right out of the holiday accommodation itself and in 10 minutes you'll arrive at Monsal Head to admire the wonderful view into the dale perhaps with an ice-cream or a pint from the popular Stables Bar. There's also a cafe (gifts) next door.

Thinking about getting married in the Peak District? Well you should check out the quaint Congregational Chapel in Little Longstone as it offers the entire place for wedding hire for around £250/£300 and accommodates 70 sitting guests. And it doesn't come any more rural or attractive or romantic than this. Additionally of course you have lots of places for your guests to stay and a choice of places to eat and drink already highlighted in the earlier text. Could this be the place for your big day?

We hope you've enjoyed our look at this beautiful area and the great place to stay that is Little Longstone Barns, a genuinely lovely place for a holiday in the Peak District. So lovely in fact that one holidaying couple have returned no fewer than 28 times since the place opened in 2008. That's what you call a recommendation....! See you again next time and have a great short break or holiday in the Peak District National Park...other Peak District cottages area available but very few are as nice as these and the little hamlet/village location is rural and adorable.
