TransformU UNFPA University Network

Universities and educational institutions serve as incubators of new ideas, inventions and solutions to many of today’s global challenges. Specifically, they can play a key role to engage students, researchers, academics and scientists in generating the knowledge, analysis and expertise needed to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to frame them as a universal and interlinked agenda.

In an effort to work effectively with the academic community, UNFPA created and formally launched a University Network (called TransformU) in March 2019. TransformU is a membership-based network that invites institutions of higher education, continuing education and educational associations and consortiums to join UNFPA’s vision to address the SDGs and specifically, UNFPA’s Transformative Results.

The “transformative results for humanity” align with the SDGs targets and build on momentum generated by UNFPA and its partners in countries around the world. TransformU focuses on working with the academic community, including students, to deliver strong results for women, girls and young people, and support countries in achieving the SDGs.

The goal of TransformU is to create a vibrant and diverse network that generates ideas and implements solutions that promote the Transformative Results. These activities include research, training opportunities, global innovation challenges, on-campus initiatives and other activities at national, regional and global levels.

Why join TransformU?

  • Joining TransformU means a direct partnership with UNFPA, a strong agency that is part of the UN system
  • Being a member allows for a differentiated contribution to the SDGs
  • TransformU members will be able to collaborate with similar organizations in over 155 countries that UNFPA operates in
  • Through UNFPA, TransformU members are able to access local governments and other key stakeholders
  • TransformU members receive recognition as subject experts at national and global arenas
