Mr. Chris Smedley Named as Assistant Superintendent
I am pleased to share the news that our very own Mr. Chris Smedley has been appointed as the incoming Assistant Superintendent. His dedication to Mt. Vernon has already been established in his short tenure at our district. Serving as our Chief Financial Officer, and most recently as a Co-Interim Superintendent, he has developed strong relationships that will serve him in his new role of leading the learning in our schools. Congratulations Chris!
MVCSC Strives for ALL Students to Learn at High Levels: High Reliability Schools Levels 1-3
We need YOUR help with a brief survey in the coming weeks!
We are asking ourselves the question: “As good as we are, what can we do to be even better?” The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation has excellent programs for our students that are led by extremely dedicated staff. In working to achieve our mission to engage, educate, and empower our students, we believe that a concerted effort to ensure that all students learn at high levels is our avenue to excellence!
MVCSC is pursuing a framework called High Reliability Schools that aligns our teacher's Professional Learning Communities (during Delayed Start Wednesdays) with a collaborative process focused on student learning. Also in this process, we will fine-tune a crystal-clear curriculum to ensure that we are staying on track with school improvement.
Surveys of parents, students, faculty, and administration for High Reliability Schools Level 1 will be launched in a few weeks. These surveys will be the foundation in which all work will stem from. With your participation on these surveys, we will continue to keep our efforts focused on school improvement! For additional information, please see the website article HERE.
All MVCSC Buildings Will be Closed on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays June 3 - July 12
The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) will be closing all buildings on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from June 3 through July 12 in an effort to be more efficient with our energy conservation. Employees will move to four 10-hour days during these weeks.
MVCSC anticipates this will save the district $10,000 - $20,000; this effort will continue to leverage our resources and maximize our operating and energy efficiency in preparation for the loss of our Increment Funds in 2022. MVCSC is proud to continue efforts towards maintaining an energy efficient district.
Immunization Clinic For Incoming 6th & 12th Graders
Did you know that MVCSC and the State of Indiana requires additional immunizations before 6th and 12th grade? Keeping your student immunized is important to your child’s health and is required to attend school at MVCSC. The Hancock County Health Department is offering the required and recommended vaccinations for incoming 6th grade students and incoming 12th grade students (only).
Immunizations will be ran through the parent/guardian’s health insurance. If the child has no health insurance, the student will still be able to receive immunizations. For details on the immunizations given (all or none) and additional information, click the article HERE.
