WORKING BEE Many thanks to all who attended our final working bee for the year. Activities focused mainly on the spreading of mulch on the banks of the oval, especially our recently planted out areas, the creation of a cubby house outside the Foundation classrooms, further work in the Japanese Garden renovation and then general tidying and sweeping. As discussed, the class with the most ‘attendees’ has scored a free lunch at a date to be advised before the end of the year, and I can announce that class will be Grade 1K.

SCHOOL CAPTAINS Last Friday, the Grade 5 students listened very respectfully to their peers as those who nominated put forward their individual cases as to why they should be the 2019 school captain. This is almost a highlight of the year for me as many students suspend their nervousness speaking in front of an audience, demonstrate thought and understanding of the role and speak with genuine pride of their school. Students voted for their preferred candidate and as a result of this voting, five boys and six girls (including ties) were shortlisted to present at an interview this Friday involving Jane Gough (Grade 6 team leader), Narelle Taylor (Grade 5 team leader), Gill Nicholls, Patrick Walsh and myself. The 2019 school captains will be announced next week with a badge presentation held at the Monday morning assembly shortly thereafter.

SCHOOL COUNCIL The November meeting of School Council will take place tonight at 7pm in the staffroom.

FOUNDATION 2019 INFORMATION EVENING An Information evening and announcement of grades for next year’s Foundation group is scheduled for next Thursday, November 22 at 7pm in the Science room.

Have a great weekend.

Kind regards,

Bill Kersing

Principal

ELECTION DAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE & BAKE SALE Viewbank Primary School are doing a fundraiser sausage sizzle and bake sale on Saturday November 24 in conjunction with the Election polling day. All money raised at this event will go towards future school improvements such as the oval area renovation.

We are looking for some bakers that can help fill the bake stall with some delicious homebaked goods.

Homebaked goods can be any type of home baked goods, such as cakes, muffins, slices, biscuits etc. that are ready (paper plates, boxes, plastic bags) for sale either whole plates or smaller/individually packaged goods. Goods cannot contain ingredients that require refrigeration (ie. fresh cream), as these facilities are not available. All items will need to be labeled with ingredients.

We are also seeking volunteers to help with the organising of the goods on Friday 23 and people to man the cake stall and sausage sizzle on Saturday 24.

If you are able to help in any way even an hour or two of your time or the donation of baked goods we would be very grateful for your support.

For any queries please contact (bake sale) Brooke - brooke@smoiled.com or (BBQ) Kim - kgraps@gmail.com or see the school office.

Thank you

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ella and this is Lucy. We are here to talk to you about The Big Group Hug. We are running a special Christmas fund raiser for Big Group Hug here at Viewbank.

Big Group Hug would love it if we could collect some summer pyjamas, and some small items that could go into a bag for children in need. They have asked for pyjamas from size 2 – 14, small children’s toiletries such as shampoo, deodorant, lip balm or body wash. We are collecting new items rather than ‘used’ items this time.

We would love to fill our donations bin and we have emptied it so that it’s ready for all of your donations. The donations bin is kept in our room 3/4F room 18. The office will also accept your donations if you’re not sure where we are.

Thank you for listening.

Drought Relief for Farmers Free Dress Day

On Friday the 23rd of November there will be a free dress day with a gold coin donation. We’re raising money to help farmers who are experiencing a long drought. Children can dress up as a farmer or a farm animal. The drought has affected parts of Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. Farmers are not able to produce the products Australia needs.

All money raised will go to “Drought Angels” who help farmers all around Australia.

Thanks for reading.
